There are two basic ways to maximize your financial security and stability. You can improve your finances by cutting costs and by increasing income.
Additionally, the two most common sources for improving income toward financial security are
- being a mompreneur with your own business
- working for someone else
Of course, having your own business has a unique set of challenges. Not everyone is called to be a mompreneur. For instance, if you have a career you enjoy or invested time as well as training into, you might prefer to stay and climb the corporate ladder. There are advantages to working in your career including regular income, medical benefits, and often matching funds for your retirement fund.
Maximize financial security through your career
For instance, consider these options to make forward movement in your career.
- Play a heavenly-minded tape in your mind. Record yourself reading encouraging verses and play these daily while you dress. Play Scripture songs that speak life and truth through the music. Fall asleep listening to the Bible and you will wake more confident.
- Paste inspiring Bible verses on the bathroom mirror to read aloud daily.
- Prepare your speech to ask your boss for a raise, benefits, flexible hours—whatever will move your life forward and add dollars into your bank account.
- Pursue a mentor: Find a woman with a heart to teach, support, and equip others to progress in their career. Follow and implement the wise counsel you receive.
- Pick up the ball and run with it. When someone forgets something important at work, be a team player, and go that extra mile. You make friends as you help others succeed.
- Practice initiative: Dawn Rasmussen on the Work It Daily blog explains, “Be early to work, dependable, and get projects done early or on time while not compromising on quality. Take on a special project or tough task when you can tackle it competently.
- Plan steps to gain training, experience, and time with those who are achievers in your corporation.
- Personalize your boss. See your boss through the lens of God’s care and compassion. Remember the names of his or her spouse and children. Take note of your boss’s favorite foods, hobbies, and stressors.
Called to financial stability
You can be confident that no matter your path, God has gone before you and walks with you. Bestselling author Sharon Jaynes of Enough, and Take Hold shared a simple and profound exposition of God’s call of Moses into leadership.
In his word, the Lord said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I am concerned about their suffering. So, I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey…” (Exodus 3:7-8 NIV, emphasis added)
Be assured that in His Word, God promises that
- God sees you
- God hears you
- God is concerned about you
- God will rescue you
- Since God is in her midst, she will not be shaken.
- God will help her at the break of dawn, (Psalm 46:5 ISV)
Resilient financial security
You will know your heart is healing when you begin to dream again.
For example, author and speaker, Pam Farrel watched her single mom accomplish goals at work, with her finances, and in her private life. The one to gather a group for day trips in her home state, she has camped, cruised, and flown. She visited New Zealand where their family immigrated from three generations ago. In that far away country, she met relatives. Like a pilgrim with suitcases, she attends Christian conferences, trainings, and family camps with her extended family. Additionally, she has traveled twice to Israel.
“I knew the kids were going away to college,” Pam’s mom recalled. “Their adventure was ahead, but so was mine. I could save, learn to invest, and find travel deals to visit the places I wanted to see. I made a list of countries, cities, and local sights I wanted to explore.”
Indeed, working for someone else provides abundant opportunities for your financial growth, security, and stability.
Now it’s your turn. What goals would you like to achieve?
“What is on your bucket list,” my daughter recently asked. “Have you written out the experiences you want to do? Put the list on the refrigerator so we can all know and encourage you.”
Her suggestion was a good reminder.
How can you maximize your day job to make your dreams come true?
